AKEBIA
Five-leaf Akebia
(Akebia quinata)—Beautiful, finely-textured foliage. Small purple blossoms are followed by large purple fruits in the fall. Height to 40’.

BITTERSWEET
American Bittersweet
(Celastrus scandens)—A very hardy native vine. Famous for its colorful orange-red fruits. Vigorous grower that needs a support to grow on. It is recommended to plant more than one for good fruit production. Height 20-30’.
‘Greek Mix’ (‘Diana & Hercules’)—A match made in heaven...or at least in our nursery! Each container contains both a ‘Hercules (male) and a ‘Diana’ (female) bittersweet vine to insure pollination and fruit set in every planting. Height 20-30’.

CLEMATIS
(Clematis hybrids)—One of the showiest flowering vines available. Plant in full sun but keep their roots cool by heavy mulching or shading the ground with smaller plantings.
Alabast’ (‘Poulala’)—A more recent introduction from Denmark. Creamy-white flowers with creamy-yellow centers. Height 8-10’. Group B.
NEW!—‘Allanah’—Produces beautiful, large, dark red flowers on a hardy, vigorous vine. Flowers from early summer to late summer. Height 6-8’. Group C.
‘Anna Louise’ (‘Evithree’)—A heavy blooming selection with stunning, 4-6” diameter, violet flowers with each petal (tepal) having a red-purple stripe down the center. Height 6-8’. Group B.
‘Artic Queen’ (‘Evitwo’)—A stunningly beautiful, fully double, white flowering selection. This heavy bloomer will produce double flowers on both old and new wood. Height 6-8’. Group B.

Bill Mackenzie’ (C. tangutica)—A hardy, strong growing selection with open, bell-shaped, nodding, yellow flowers 2 1/2” across and attractive seedheads. A good choice for large structures or fences. Height 15-20’. Group C.
Bushy Blue Bell’ (C. integrifolia ‘Caerulea’)—This is a herbaceous species of Clematis with dainty little bell-like flowers of violet-blue. Instead of vining, this species has a bushy habit with some stems growing erect and others growing more outwards. Makes a great filler plant for perennial borders. Height 1-2’, spread 2-3’. Group C.
Candida’—Large, white flowers with prominent yellow-white stamens. Blooms in June and repeat blooms until October. Height 8-15’. Group B.
NEW!—‘Captain Thuilleaux’—Introduced in 1918 from France, named for a fallen soldier of the First World War. Beautiful, large (6-8”) flowers, pale pink with a strawberry-pink central bar and a golden-brown center. Height 6-8’. Group B.
Comtesse de Bouchaud’—Medium size flowers of soft satiny-pink with lavender and yellow center. Prune hard in the spring. Will bloom June-August. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Constance’ (C. alpina)—A seedling from ‘Ruby’ with improved characteristics. Rich purple-pink, semi-double flowers about 2” deep. Heavy flowering form that blooms from mid to late spring. Prune immediately after flowering only if needed. Height 8-10’. Group A.
Duchess of Albany’ (C. texensis)—Abundant, miniature, candy-pink, tulip-like flowers held upright on thick flower stalks. Can be used as a cut flower, groundcover or on a trellis. Blooms mid-summer to fall. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Duchess of Edinburgh’—An old classic clematis selected for it fully double, white, fragrant flowers that reach up to 5” in diameter. Height 6-8’. Group B.
Earnest Markham’—A summer flowering form with bright red-violet flowers. Can be pruned hard in the spring. Height 12-14’. Group C.
Etoile Violette’ (C. viticella)—A vigorous, free-flowering form with beautiful, bell-like, violet flowers. Can be pruned hard in the spring. Height 8-12’. Group C.
Fireworks’—Flowers are very large (7-8” wide) and produced in large numbers. Individual petals are bluish-purple with a bright pinkish-red center. Height 8-10’. Group B or C.
NEW!—‘Galore’ (‘Evipo032’) (syn. ‘Vesuvius’)—A heavy flowering form showcasing bright purple flowers with yellow centers. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Golden’ (C. tangutica)—Produces large quantities of pendulous, bell-like, golden-yellow flowers. Bright green summer foliage and impressive fluffy seedheads in the fall and the winter. Prune to about 18” each spring for best flowering. Height 15-20’. Group C.
Gravetye Beauty’ (C. texensis)—An unusual looking selection with lovely, rich red, miniature tulip-like flowers 2-3” across. Very hardy form that looks great when allowed to ramble along the ground. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Gypsy Queen’—Rich, velvety, violet-purple flowers about 5” across. Heavy bloomer. Prune hard in the spring for best flower production. Height 8-10’. Group C.
‘‘Henryi’—A garden favorite! Large, 4-5”, pure white flowers in the spring on old wood and then again in the late summer on new wood. Height 8-10’. Group B or C.
Huldine’—A vigorous grower producing large numbers of pearly-white flowers about 3-4” across. Awarded the Royal Horticulture Society Award of Merit. Prune to about 12-18” each spring. Height 10-15’. Group C.
Jackmanii’—A classic! Blooms heavily in June and continues blooming lightly all summer. Deep purple. Ht. 8-12’ . Group C.
Jackmani Superba’—Large, deep rich purple flowers about 5” across that are produced in large numbers from mid-summer to fall. Height 8-10’. Group C.
NEW!—‘Kiri Te Kanawa’—A dramatic double-flowering selection, deep purplish-blue in color and quite stunning. Early flowers are 5-6” in diameter, becoming smaller later in the season. Height 6-8’. Group B.
Lady Betty Balfour’—Rich, deep, velvety-purple flowers with bright golden-yellow stamens. Very vigorous. Blooms late summer and into the fall. Height 8-12’. Group C.
Liberation’ (‘Evifive’)—A striking selection with large (up to 9” diameter during the first flush!), deep pink flowers with a bright golden-yellow center. Height 8-10’. Group B.
’Little Duckling’ (‘Piilu’)—An interesting selection with a wonderful initial bloom of double, mauvish-pink flowers. Later blooms are single and reveal a prominent deeper pink central bar on each petal. Height 4-5’. Group B.
Madame Julia Correvon’ (C. viticella)—Large, wine-red flowers with yellow center. An award winner that will bloom June-September. Prune hard in the spring. Height 8-12’. Group C.
Miss Bateman’—Produces beautiful satin-white flowers, 5-6” in diameter with dark red contrasting centers. Height 6-8’. Group B.
NEW!—‘Mrs. Robert Brydon’—This is a non-clinging, semi-herbaceous selection. Small flowers are bluish-white and produced from midsummer to early fall. If not tied up to a support, this selection will ramble through neighboring plants or grow as a groundcover. Height 6-8’. Group C.
Mongolian’ (C. hexapetala)—A herbaceous perennial species. Produces numerous single, white flowers, 1 1/2” in diameter. Could easily be incorporated into perennial border. Prune back hard each spring. Height 2-3’. Group C.
Mongolian Gold’—An erect, woody shrub with golden-yellow flowers similar in color to yak butter but better smelling (we hope!). Dark, green foliage. Selected from seeds collected from Northern Inner Mongolia. Blooms summer and fall. Height 3-4’, spread 3-4’. Group C.
Mrs. Cholmondeley’—A classic Clematis with large (up to 7”) light lavender-blue flowers and a light chocolate center. Introduced in 1873. Blooms from late spring to early fall. Height 8-10’. Group B.
Mrs. George Jackman’—Creamy-white, semi-double flowers early in the season produced off of old wood. New growth later in the season produces single flowers. Height 6-8’. Group B.
Multi-Blue’—This is an unusual, double-flowering form with stunning, 4-5” blue flowers. Blooms in the spring and then again late in the summer. Height 6-8’. Group B.
Nelly Moser’—7-9” pale pink flowers with dark pink bars. Blooms May to September. Height 8-12’. Group B.
Olgae’ (C. intergrifolia hy.)—A Russian introduction that produces lovely bell-shaped, blue flowers about 1 1/2” long each. Flowers are lightly scented. This is a herbaceous perennial form that does not vine that could easily be incorporated into a perennial border. Prune back hard each spring. Height 2-3’, spread 2-3’. Group C.
Petite Faucon’—This is a wonderful modern hybrid with an abundant production of nodding, deep blue flowers up to 3 1/2” across with slightly twisted petals. Looks great rambling through other plants or planted on a small trellis. Height 3-5’. Group C.
‘Pink Fantasy’—A heavy flowering hybrid with pink flowers accented with peachy-pink highlights and dusky red centers. A compact grower suitable as a cut flower. Blooms from midsummer to early autumn. Height 6-8’. Group C.
‘Pink Flamingo’ (C. alpina)—A spring bloomer with pale pink, semi-nodding flowers about 1 1/2” long. Tends to rebloom during mid to late summer. Height 8-10’. Group A.
‘‘Polish Spirit’ (C. viticella)—Large, rich purple-blue flowers with a red center. Prune hard in the spring. Height 10-13’. Group C.
Princess Diana’ (C. texanensis)—A semi-herbaceous selection with beautiful luminous pink, tulip-like flowers. Looks neat rambling through low shrubs or perennials where flowers can be viewed from above. Height 6-8’. Group C.
Purpurea Plena Elegans’ (C. viticella)—2-3” very double blooms. Prune back hard in late winter or early spring. Height 10-12’. Group C.
‘Ramona’ (‘Hybrida Sieboldiana’)—Large, 6-7” diameter, lavender-blue flowers with dark stamens. Blooms heavily on old wood in the spring and then reblooms on new wood through the summer. Height 8-10’. Group B.
NEW!—‘Red Beetroot Beauty’ (C. alpina ‘Betina’)—This selection has an odd name, but it aptly describes this flower color, beetroot blood red. Nodding, bell-like flowers emerge from old wood early in the spring. Height 6-8’. Group A.
Rouge Cardinal’—A heavy blooming selection with rich, velvety-crimson flowers from midsummer to early autumn. Prune to about 12-18” each spring. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Royal Velours’ (C. viticella)—An outstanding selection with stunning deep velvety-purple flowers about 2 1/2-3” in diameter. Dark flowers contrast impressively with silvery-gray foliaged plants. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Royal Velvet’ (‘Evifour’)—The name aptly describes this selection. Flowers are velvet-purple with a dark red-purple center, are produced in abundance and reach 4-6” in dia. Height 5-7’. Group B.

 
 

Sunset’—A heavy blooming selection with large (4-5” diameter) deep plumy-red flowers with purple highlights. Height 6-8’. Group B.
Sweet Autumn’ (C. terniflora)—An extremely vigorous, very hardy selection with a phenomenal display of sweetly fragrant, small white flowers late in the summer and into the fall. This plant looks like a white, fragrant cloud when in bloom! Height 10-20’. Group C.
Venosa Violacea’ (C. viticella)—A heavy-flowering selection with dark purple and white flowers. Individual petals are white in the center, giving way to dark purple at the edges. Stunning. Makes a nice cut flower. Height 8-10’. Group C.
‘Ville de Lyon’—A heavy flowering hybrid with bright carmine-red flowers and golden stamens. Large flowering form with blooms up to 4” across. Height 6-10’. Group C.
Vino’ (‘Poulvo’)—This large flowering hybrid has petunia-red flowers and a yellow/cream center. Blooms in late spring and again late in the summer. Height 6-10’. Group B.
NEW!—‘Viola’—Single, deep bluish-violet flowers, 4-5” across with a greenish-white to yellow center. Vigorous grower and heavy bloomer. Height 8-10’. Group C.
Warsaw Nike’—A heavy bloomer with rich velvety red-purple flowers up to 6” in diameter and a contrasting pale yellow center. Prune only lightly in the spring by removing dead or damaged wood and then taking shoot back to the first pair of strong buds. Height 8-10’. Group B.
‘White Bushy’ (C. intergrifolia ‘Alba’)—A hardy, herbaceous perennial that produces dainty, bell shaped, lightly scented flowers of pure white. Easily incorporated into the perennial garden. Prune back hard each spring for best appearance. Height 1-2’, spread 2-3’. Group C.

CROSSVINE
Tangerine Beauty Crossvine
(Bignonia capreolata ‘Tangerine Beauty’)—A very fast growing, self-clinging vine with evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage. Ruby-tangerine flowers are produced in abundance in the spring and then repeats sporadically through the summer. An extremely tough plant, however some winter dieback may occur in severe winter temperatures. Height 20-50’.

DUTCHMAN’S PIPE
Dutchman’s Pipe
(Aristolochia macrophylla)—Vigorous vine with large heart-shaped leaves. Use on large structures to create shade or privacy. Flowers are yellow-green. Height to 30’.

FALSE HYDRANGEA-VINE


Moonlight False Hydrangea-vine
(Schizophragma hydrangeoides ‘Moonlight’)—Very similar to the Climbing Hydrangea but growth tends to stay a little flatter. This selection has light silver-gray to pewter-blue foliage and large white flowers. Plant in moist shady locations with plenty of room to grow. Height 20-30’.

Strawberry Leaf Hydrangea-vine
(Schizophragma hydrangeoides ‘Strawberry Leaf’)—Similar to the species but with leaves that are more serrated making them look like the foliage of a strawberry plant. Beautiful white flowers, but sorry folks, no strawberries! Plant in a moist, shady location with plenty of room to grow. Height 20-30’.

HONEYSUCKLE
Goldflame Honeysuckle
(Lonicera x heckrottii)—Large flame-coral trumpets, lined with gold. Hardy and everblooming. Best used on a trellis. Height 10-20’.

Hall’s Honeysuckle
(Lonicera japonica ‘Halliana’)—Flowers are pure white changing to yellow. Very fragrant. Vigorous grower with semi-evergreen foliage. Use on trellis or mass plant to make an vigorous ground cover. Height 10-20’.

Harlequin Woodbine Honeysuckle
(Lonicera periclymenum ‘Harlequin’)—A stunning variegated selection with leaves of cream, pink and dark green occurring in irregular patterns. Fragrant, tubular, pale rose-purple flowers with a white to yellow lip are produced from May to July. Height 10-20’.

John Clayton Trumpet Honeysuckle
(Lonicera sempervirens ‘John Clayton’)—A vigorous, compact growing vine with yellow flowers produced from late spring until fall. Showy red fruits add to the season-long display. Discovered in an old church yard in Virginia and named after the colonial botanist, John Clayton. Height 10-15’.

Mandarine Honeysuckle
(Lonicera x ‘Mandarine’)—A hardy selection introduced from University of British Columbia breeding program. Flowers are bright orange with a yellow center and are produced from late spring through the summer. Height 10-20’.

Purpleleaf Honeysuckle
(Lonicera japonica var. purpurea)—Rich, purplish-tinted, dark green foliage with white flowers changing to yellow. Semi-evergreen and very hardy. Use on a trellis or as a ground cover for a large area. Fragrant. Height 10-20’.

HOPS
Nugget Ornamental Hops
(Humulus lupulus ‘Nugget’)—The mature female flowers, or hops, of this plant are typically used in the making of beer. However as an ornamental, this vigorous perennial vine makes an interesting, fast-growing showpiece for the garden. Provide a substantial structure to support the vine. Plant will die back to the ground each winter, but grows back quickly each season. Height 12-20’.

HYDRANGEA
Climbing Hydrangea
(Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris)—Fragrant flowers are white and borne in 6-10” clusters. Exfoliating, shaggy bark. Slow to establish, then quite vigorous. Will do best in light shade. Excellent vine on a trellis, or if unsupported, makes a nice groundcover. Height 10-30’.

Barbara Ann Climbing Hydrangea
(Decumaria barbara ‘Barbara Ann’)—Not actually a true Hydrangea but very closely related. Produces upright 2-3” diameter clusters of creamy-white, fragrant, 1/4” diameter flowers in the spring. A clinging vine that would work nicely on a large wall or tree. Needs some shade and moist soil. Height 10-20’.

Miranda Climbing Hydrangea
(Hydrangea anomala var. petiolaris ‘Firefly’)—One of the best now gets even better! This selection has the same great climbing habit and impressive floral display of the species but adds green and yellow variegated foliage to the mix, providing color all through the growing season. Height 10-30’.

IVY
Baltic English Ivy
(Hedra helix ‘Baltica’)—This is a good hardy form introduced from the Missouri Botanical Garden. Glossy, dark green, evergreen foliage. Makes a good groundcover or self-clinging vine for walls and fences in shaded areas. Height 10-30’.

Boston Ivy
(Parthenocissus tricuspidata ‘Veitchii’)—It will cling to brick, stucco, stone, and rough wood without support. The foliage turns brilliant shades of scarlet and orange in the fall. Height 20-50’.

Engelman Virginia Creeper
(Parthenocissus quinquefolia ‘Engelmannii’)—This is a more refined selection of this native species. Leaves are dark green through the summer, turning a wonderful deep, burgundy-red in the fall. This vigorous, self-clinging vine is extremely hardy and durable. Also produces numerous small blue fruits that birds love. Height 15-40’.

Star Showers Virginia Creeper
(Parthenocissus quinquefolia ‘Monham’)—A fast growing vine with “paint splatter” variegations of white and pink on glossy green foliage. Will cling to any rough surface and spread quite vigorously. Height 20-50’.

Thorndale English Ivy
(Hedra helix ‘Thorndale’)—A very hardy form with leaves a little larger than the species. Makes a great groundcover for shady areas. Also works well as a wall covering for shady areas. Evergreen. Height 10-30’.

KIWI
Arctic Kiwi
(Actinidia arguta ‘Issai’)—Self-pollinating, sweet, early-bearing plant. A male pollinator is not required for this selection, however it will tend to produce more and bear larger fruit with a male present. Height 10-20’.

Arctic Beauty Kiwi
(Actinidia kolomitka ‘Arctic Beauty’)—Striking pink and white variegated foliage. Young leaves are a rich purple color. A male selection. May take several years before variegation begins to be exhibited. Height 8-15’.

SILVERLACE VINE
Silverlace Vine
(Polygonum aubertii)—One of the fastest growing vines we sell! Just the thing to cover a big area in a short time, either on a trellis or on the ground. Blooms the first year with great masses of foamy white flowers. Height 10-30’.

TRUMPET VINE
Balboa Sunset Trumpet Vine
(Campsis radicans ‘Monbal’)—A great introduction with spectacular, scarlet-red, trumpet shaped flowers reaching up to 4” in length! An extremely tough vine that hummingbirds just love. Height 10-40’.

Common Trumpet Vine
(Campsis radicans)—Vigorous growing native vine. Bright orange-red, trumpet shaped flowers from mid-summer through fall. Good for butterflies and hummingbirds. Fast grower! Height 10-40’.

Madame Galen Trumpet Vine
(Campsis x tagliabuana ‘Madam Galen’)—A very vigorous hybrid with a spectacular show of salmon-orange trumpet-shaped flowers. Height 10-40’.

Yellow Trumpet Vine
(Campsis radicans ‘Flava’)—This is a yellow to orange-yellow flowering form of our native Common Trumpet Vine. An extremely tough and easy to grow plant. Needs a very sturdy support to grow on. Loved by hummingbirds. Height 10-40’.

WISTERIA
Kentucky Wisteria
(Wisteria macrostachys)—An impressive vine with 8-12” pendulous flower clusters. Can be grown on a large structure or staked and trained into a tree form. Probably the hardiest of the wisterias. Height 15-25’.
‘Aunt Dee’ — An exceptionally hardy selection with light purple, slightly fragrant flowers produced in 7 1/2” long clusters.
‘Blue Moon’—An outstanding selection introduced from Minnesota, so you know it is hardy. Sweetly fragrant, blue to lavender flowers hang down off of the vine in an impressive display several times a season. In fact, it is reported to bloom three times a year! Height 15-25’.
